No one wants to lose the downvote button. If you want to submit a caption without a downvote button go to 9Gag and have a blast. Half the fun is seeing how other people like/dislike your comment. With that said, I think we could stop chronic downvoting syndrome by making it a tiny bit less anonymous as to who is downvoting what. People sometimes hate on downvoters because they feel targeted and like their comment deserved more, but in all honesty there are shitty captions that dont deserve upvotes. So if we could Look at each caption and there could be a link saying "'so and so' downoted this caption" i think that it could solve a lot of the anonymity issue with downvoters. With less anonymity they would lose confidence in their will to downvote. Another solution would be to have a bar next to that person's submitted caption that shows a ratio of how many captions they liked vs disliked on that picture. Just some ideas to play around with, imgur. love you all and i don't want to see the dislike button removed!

It would be nice to support JSONp on all API results in JSON format. You just have to wrap the result up in a function set via a additional paramater usually named callback see http://pastebin.com/Pfb3sgTT

I thought I had already posted this idea. Could not locate it. Tried hard.

The problem is that due to connectivity problem Imgur would skip some images showing a failed upload message.

These messages would disappear after a couple of seconds. On batch images, you might not even notice which images were not uploaded properly.

Basically, I am seeking two things...

Do not hide failed upload messages. So that we can see which images were not uploaded properly.
If possible provide an option for a retry. Just like Flickr does!

I love this site and check it multiple times a day and I first want to thank you for all the hard work you put into making it into such a great site! There is one thing I think could be improved that would remove the only aspect of the site I don't love. Is there any way to make it so whenever an image is added to the main gallery it becomes the first image under the new tab? I've noticed that it is frequently the case that new images appear somewhere in the middle of the new section. If they could be sorted in someway that would prevent me from missing images I think the site would be perfect! Thanks again for all your hard work.

It would be nice to be able to switch between multiple imgur accounts in the drop down menu that appears when you hover over your account name, similar to Gmail or Reddit Enhancement Suite. The major reason I use multiple accounts is because of some third party applications that require an imgur account to use, and I don't want those images cluttering my main account or the application having access to it.

Hi, many of my images in the account disapeared. I wonder if you deleted them or it's some kind of bug? If you deleted them it'd be cool if you, maybe, send a notification/email to tell us you do that, so maybe we can better understand what images we should not upload in future. If you do not deleted them, is it possible to restore those images in some way? Thanks!

these are one of those:

It does seem that your images were deleted. The only reason this could have happened is if they were in violation of the terms of service (pornography, copyrighted material, abusive, etc.).

Hi. Of all the image sharing sites I've tried out, imgur is by far the coolest looking, most intuitive to use, and just generally feels right. I would really like to go pro and migrate all my shareworthy images here.

However, I resent PayPal's business ethics and don't want to deal with them or via them. The FAQ search revealed that you are already planning to implement other payment channels as well. So, first the question part: when have you planned to expand the options?

And second, the "thanks" part: it's great to know such a plan is on the way - you'll be gaining a subscriber :)

Hey! So recently, (the last few days) my views on my images have not been updating. many are stuck on 0 views, and i KNOW they have a lot of views. One of my comics got on the frontpage of reddit yesterday and it still says zero views.

Any chance you could fix whatever's glitchin?
Much appreciated!

We are currently having a conflict with our CDN, who provides us with the data to tabulate the views. They said they need 24-48 hours to work it out on their end, but hopefully after that you will notice all of the views updated. Sorry for the downtime.

Sometimes I see comments with typos (including my own), and it'd be really handy to be able to edit comments after I've hit "save" to change these mistakes that I and others have missed and didn't intend. I suggest a limited amount of time (maybe ~5mins) if possible, so that someone can't get a top comment, and then abuse it by using it for advertising etc.

Keep up the good work!

I'm proud of my more popular captions, as I'm sure we all are. So, on the user gallery profile page, maybe display somewhere a list of captions the user has posted which were ranked highest among all captions for a given image. Basically, a list of all captions which when you visit the image, show up as the top caption. Those are already marked on the image page, but an aggregation of these for each user would be excellent.

It seems that the search feature searches for image titles only.  It'd be nice if there was an option to include search for text in comments.  Example:  Someone made a funny comment several weeks ago and I didn't comment or like the image so I can't refer back to it via my profile.  I'd like to search for the comment, and the comment along with the picture would show up.  Brilliant idea and not too hard to incorporate.  I should work for Imgur... :)

I am having difficulty seeing images from imgur. I can access (and ping) imgur.com, but anything from i.imgur.com (through Chrome, I.E., or Firefox, and even including pinging) fails. I see a common issue for this is DNS settings, but I have changed mine to Google's Open DNS and still have issue. It does not occur on other devices on the same network, and it has occured on my computer on two separate networks. What other causes to this issue can there be?

Recently, comments have been immediately downvoted on any and all pictures being uploaded to imgur right when they are uploaded. I and others have voiced the opinion that the option to downvote other comments be taken away for the first 30 minutes, give or take, that any image is on imgur, after which the right is given back. This will easily solve the problem, and a spam report option can be added to offset spam if need be.

Currently, it uploads one image at a time and leaves the others pending when uploading to a gallery. Most people's upload connection isn't saturated or maxed by this plus there are a few seconds processing time per album which make uploading files take much longer than necessary. If you reconfigure it to allow two to three simultaneous uploads this should greatly reduce upload time.

laggingreflex 5 years ago 0

Most of the times I just have to quickly upload an image, but on a slower connection I'm hesitant to come to imgur because the landing page, which is the only way to upload images, takes forever to load before ctrl-v (props to that feature btw) takes effect, and eveth then it takes a while because of the sheer volume of network traffic used up by image loading process.

A separate light uploading page without all the images would be extremely convenient.

Hello,

I sent an e-mail to IMGUR via the contact form but figure I could post the same question here. I just upgraded to Pro but the images I'm uploading are still getting compressed even after going into my settings and checking the box for "Upload images in high quality."

So for example, an image I uploaded that was 950kb would get compressed to 250-300kb. Is there anything that I'm missing? Does it take time for the system to adjust when going Pro?

This morning when I came into work, I noticed i.imgur.com links do not load. If I go to imgur.com the page loads, but there are no pictures. It was working fine yesterday.

This is what it looks like: http://img196.imageshack.us/img196/8646/screenshot2011100423232.png

I have tried the following:

-Hosts file entries, nothing seems to work

-Imgur -> Filmot script - script failed referencing 'document'

-Ingur -> Filmot Chrome Addon, only works on the first page of RES, then stops

-Switching to Google's DNS, no effect

-Changing IP's

I can ping i.imgur.com. All browsers on my machine are affected. Other machines on my network are unaffected, so I know it is not blocked for us. Does anyone have any advice? This is maddening.

If I try to load an i.imgur.com link all I get is a blank white page and the tab says "qus4p.png (1x1)"

Was working perfectly fine yesterday. My network does not have i.imgur.com blocked, any other machine can access it.

In the gallery page, one can click the <<Prev and Next>> button to get the next picture, or click on one of the 6 thumbnails to skip over pictures that have been seen already.

However, if all 6 thumbnail has been seen before, the only way to skip forward is to click on the 6th thumbnail. It would be nice to add another button to roll in another 6 thumbnail without needing to load the big picture unnecessarily.

Please consider adding a watermarking function. Idea is simple, user could use a text-watermark (with an opacity, font and color control) or watermark image in png format (with an alpha transparency) and chose its position (like four corners of the image). I'm pretty sure many PRO users would love this option.

Just wanted to say that I've been using imgur almost every single day for over a year now, and I incredibly enjoy your website. However, since the new gallery update there are so many new images flooding in, and the overall quality in terms of cuteness/funnyness/interesting-ness has gone down incredibly. I know it's a fine line between having lots of photos and having high quality photos, but the new update is way past that line. I've literally never been so bored browsing the gallery than just now, because that's exactly just it, now you have to browse the gallery to find a gem, instead of the majority of the images being gems. Please cut back on the influx of images, it's turning imgur into 9gag.

Answer
Sarah 5 years ago

I think a lot of what you're mentioning can be solved by tinkering with the sorting options. The "old" gallery is still there exactly as it was before. Images are still imported based on their virality. The only difference is that we are not calling those new anymore. They are automatically hot, so to access them you can sort hottest by time.

We don't expect that everyone will want to take on the task for finding the good new content on the new section. Most people will likely stick to the hot section (aka the old gallery) and things will progress as normal. We do expect, however, that the community vibe that we all love will actually become more tight-knit because we are commenting and up voting one another's images rather than those of strangers. That way when images make it from new to hot, we can comment and actually interact with OP.

TL;DR the new content is not all supposed to be good. It's up to the community to vote and decide. If you don't want to, you can stick to hottest for the old experience.
