I've been having the same issue the past month or so. Sometimes an image will load, sometimes that same image won't. Nothing about the page will change between the two times, and there does seem to be any rhyme or reason to the images not loading. I've talked to others in different parts of the world (Great Britain, Mexico, the US) and we're all having similar issues.
