Imgur converts pictures less than 1 MB

Imgur seems to convert pretty much any picture that is even less than 1 MB. As far as I know, that shouldn't happen. It ruins the picture. How do I know that this same thing will not happen if I plan to subscribe?

Imgur does modify images to remove EXIF information.

FAQs tells me that images larger than 1MB would be resized. You are saying that it changes the image even if they are less than 1MB. that is strange.

i have never noticed Imgur messing up images in terms of file quality.

this is what IMGUR PRO features:

With standard accounts, images over 1 MB will be compressed until they are less than 1 MB. With pro accounts, your images aren't touched in any way unless they are over 5 MB, in which case they will be compressed until they reach 5MB in size.
Thanks, Sushubh. Everything you said was correct. Since you have a pro account, would you be able to verify that images under 5MB are not compressed?
Only in some cases when the image is really small it will not compress the image again. Heck, it compresses png's again to png's to save few KB's (that's fine, since it's lossless). What is more annoying that it does that to jpg's too and it ruins the quality.

Example (original: 324 096 bytes):
http://img98.imageshack.us/img98/3883/masseffect2011062100391.png (324 096 bytes)
http://i.imgur.com/8xMK5.png (308 068 bytes)

JPG example: original 1920x1080 picture was 907 717 bytes, when uploaded it's 375 226 bytes and obviouosly looks like poop now.

File size is not a direct relationship to image quality. Every image that's uploaded goes through lossless compression (you can do this with jpegs too).

If you're really concerned with image quality then you're going to have to upgrade your account.

Of course, but in this case it's super obvious that they compress uploaded jpgs even further. Loss in quality is very noticeable. You can manipulate jpeg's losslessly (rotate) but you can not recompress it losslessly and make it 1/3 of the original size. I'm concerned that it will do the same with upgraded account.

it seems like imgur has this automatically image compression function to make image less than 1m. but i really appreciated imgur's image conversion vb.net  function. amazing work .

I have only tried image resizing project after PDF to image conversion procss. Any suggestion will be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
