Dear imgur. why is there a downvote button?

I can only think of one reason for a downvote button.. and that is to show disapproval of a comment.. But what happened to if you don't have anything nice to say don't say anything at all? We learned the phrase as children but it applies to adult life as well.


All I'm saying is maybe we don't need a downvote button. After all, the true measure of a comment's strength should be not so much how how many people downvote the comment to make their own look better relatively, but how many people like the comment enough to give it an upvote.

There is value in the downvote button in that it identifies bad content and affects reputation points. We do not plan to get rid of it altogether. There are measures in place to prevent excessive downvoting.

Downvoter raping profile page

A demented person has decided to "rape" my profile page by sequentially downvoting all my comments, and there doesn't seem to be any way of stopping him.
 So, how do I and others on Imgur prevent this from happening?

The ability to login to imgur from reddit would be cool.


So much of imgur is used on reddit anyway and I think it would make it easier for redditors if they wanted to use a imgur account as well.

I can't upload anything, it keeps telling me to check that the file size isn't above 2mb when the file in question isn't even close.

 There are a lot of really unfunny people and people who take an image hosting site too seriously. I would like to punish those people in wacky ways. It would encourage better comments.
