Restrict access to profiles

lgtshop 12 years ago 0
To prevent abusive behavior, restrict access to profile pages to a trusted list of Imgurians. Anyone wanting to see another's profile page would have to ask permission, and their actions would be logged.
If someone does become abusive in this fashion, only Imgur would know their identity in order to avoid personal retribution.

Captcha is broken in Google Chrome?

Sushubh Mittal 11 years ago updated by agenbolakaki 10 years ago 0

I have a Pro account. Yet I am forced to fill the captcha multiple times a day. The problem is that sometimes the captcha does not appear. Batch uploads halt in the middle because the service requires me to prove that I am a human but the captcha popup does not appear at all. Right now is a good example. No matter which screen I use, the image does not upload. Stuck with a pending message.

Image 23

I am on latest Chrome Beta right now. I have seen this behavior in the past on Stable and Dev builds too. As a result I moved to a desktop app (ShareX) for my uploads. I tried using the web uploader today after reading about the new enhancement (failed uploads are automatically retried) but apparently it is still broken. Image 23

Is there any way to just copy an image on imgur to your own account without uploading it and wasting precious disk space?

Just wondering if this is possible. So I see an image posted to imgur that isn't mine, I want to use it as well but want to keep it in my albums. Is there any way to sym link it to my account to use it in the future? Or is the best way to just upload it to my account? Not sure if that makes  sense.

If the image you like is in the gallery, you can upvote it and it will be saved to your "liked" folder. Otherwise there is no way to do that.

Feedback problem: After leaving a feedback there's no place to go

Michael_google gmail_Gersten 13 years ago updated by Sarah 13 years ago 0
During the feedback process, you never actual change pages or update the URL, or anything.

The result? When you are done entering a feedback item, you are looking at a page with your new feedback, only.

There is no "Back to Albums".
There is no "Send additional Feedback"

The only option is the browser "Back" button, which goes back what the user thinks is 5 pages (certainly about 5 actions -- at least it seems like that.)
Answer
Sarah 13 years ago
This feedback forum is not a part of the imgur.com site, which is why there is no "back to albums" button.

PS. This happens on single uploads done through Copy/Paste feature.

Comment Question p.2

Matt G 12 years ago updated by Sarah 12 years ago 0
I appreciate you taking the time to answer my question. I'm confused by the following thing, however: when I read other people's comments, when they refer to someone else with a @soandso, you can click on that text to access their profile. When I type @soandso, it is just text that doesn't link anywhere. Is there some technical wizardry going on (e.g. typing something like <a>@soandso</a>)? Do you need an imgur Pro account to do this? I feel like everyone knows but I don't. Thanks again for the help!

You just need to write it at the beginning of the sentence and it will automatically turn into a link.

Properly attribute images sideloaded from Flickr

Jake Rome 12 years ago 0
When an image is "Sideloaded" from Flickr attribution should go to the photo page (like: http://www.flickr.com/photo.gne?id=6697327163 ) instead of the direct url (like: http://farm8.staticflickr.com/7013/6697327163_b1ea2f48f3_b.jpg ) . The ID the number in the filename before the underscore.  Example taken from http://imgur.com/wGpDM

Hey Imgur

Eddie Mkryan 12 years ago updated by Sarah 12 years ago 0

So recently I've been posting some pictures to the new gallery and they have been getting very positive attention (Here is the album if you'd like to see as well http://imgur.com/a/aiyTs#0 ) and even a few fans. My idea would be to have a feature to subscribe/follow another users activity and lets you choose what about a certain user you would like to be updated about such as updating an album, posting a comment, achieving a new rank, gallery posts etc so my "fans" can be updated about a new picture I've created and uploaded. Thank you in advance for any consideration you give to this idea and good luck with the site been using it for a while and enjoy it every day :)

Usernames / Points / Notifications

Hello,

3 things:

1. Is there a way to make people have a uniqiue ID? That way even if someone changes their username you can still get to their page?
2. Can we have some more categories above Glorious?
3. Is there anyway to make a notification if someone says @username "Insert Comment." Maybe a pop-up on your page, etc.

If you want me to upload these all seperately, I can.

Thanks,

Upload image to imgur from another URL

Uglješa Erceg 11 years ago 0

Hi folks,

I am writing app in C# which should provide to user imgur link of picture which already exists on some other URL (so, not from local machine). I have implemented app so far (dummy) that app downloads image from its original URL and then local copy of image is being uploaded to imgur server and I get my imgur URL. I set image property in this way:

{ "image", Convert.ToBase64String(File.ReadAllBytes(localFileName)) }

So, basically, I read image locally from machine and pass that byte stream converted to base string in my request.

My question is: Is there a way not to do that, but to send URL where image is located and that I become imgur URL of that image without saving it locally on machine before making request to imgur server?

Many thanks in advance for any kind of answer.

Best regards.

Image thumbails in albums looks very pixelated. This looks very bad.

I can see that you are resizing 90x90 thumbnail to 135x135 box. That is the reason it looks so bad. Please fix it. Either generate bigger image or make that thumbnail smaller. But don't stretch this small image to fill bigger box.

Imgur timing out

Kyle 9 years ago updated 9 years ago 0
For the past few days, while attempting to access imgur, the site will simply timeout and I can't access the page/browse any imgur content on Reddit. This occurs on all my browsers (Chrome, Safari, and Firefox) on my mac (Macbook Pro, OSX Yosemite 10.10.5) are up to date. I'm on my campus wi-fi, which is very reliable (~27 up ~12 down at its worst) and I have no problems with any other site other than imgur. I tried clearing the cache and any cookies related to imgur.com, but neither has worked.I performed a traceroute of imgur and the packet would suddenly stop at around the 5th "hop." Every time I try to ping imgur.com I get a "request timeout for icmp_seq XX". Location on campus does not seem to have any impact.

Randomly, just as quickly as the problem appeared, the issues goes away. I can access imgur.com and browse reddit just as easily as I should be able to. Then, I can't access imgur anymore and the problem persists like a vicious cycle.

Is there anything I can do? I'd really appreciate any help. Nothing that has been archived has seemed to help.

Image highlight not on right image

Brian Bauman 12 years ago updated by Sarah 12 years ago 2
After opening and closing an image from a comment while viewing an image in the gallery (the type that pops up in the shadow-box), the yellow highlighting box on the image selector (top-right 3x2 thumbnail block) does not update to the current image. This is most noticeable when on the last image in a set of six because when I go to the next image, the image selector is still on the old set of six and not on the new set of six.
I am using the latest stable release of Google Chrome. I did not test this on any other browser.
Thank you for your work on this site, it really is a beautifully designed and well-functioning piece of work.

It's not that I don't like black, infact I love black SO much that I have my entire screen on "invert colors" just so I can view every damn site in black. But on imgur it fails and I have to use pesky css hacks.

I know this is probably not a good enough reason, but consider that the entire web is "light", so obviously folks like it.

Please reconsider :)

Can you folks fix the problem where you force pages

Turil Cronburg 11 years ago 0
Can you folks fix the bug where your site forces my (older iBook G4's Firefox browser) to try to load as a mobile app, which utterly doesn't load any images or text at all for me?  As in, when I click on a link to an Imgur page, to see someone's image/s, the address changes to the mobile address, and then loads nothing on my browser at all (just the dark grey background, and empty space).  This only started recently (a few months ago at most).

I have to get around it by changing the "m" to an "i" in the address, and then appending the address with ".jpg".  This usually works (but I guess not all images are jpgs), but not always.

Are thumbnails for animated GIFs going to be static images from now on?

Aman Loomba 11 years ago updated 11 years ago 1

Hi Guys --

Once upon a time, certain thumbnails of animated GIFs were themselves animated.  For example, this file and its "h" thumbnail are both animated:

Original, animated:

http://i.imgur.com/H2ewgw5.gif

Thumbnail, still animated:

http://i.imgur.com/H2ewgw5h.gif

However I'm now seeing images where the thumbnails are not animated any more, for example:

Original, animated:

http://i.imgur.com/eGmdu46.jpg

Thumbnail, NOT animated:

http://i.imgur.com/eGmdu46h.jpg

My question: Is this by design and going to be the standard going forward, or are files like the second example some kind of fluke or temporary condition?

Thanks!

I would like to be inside an album and upload new images directly into that album (rather than into a giant image pot first). I would like to do this using IE9.

Andrea Robbins 12 years ago updated by Sarah 12 years ago 0

To simplify uploading, it would be sweet to open an album, and have an "upload more" window that will allow new photos to be uploaded DIRECTLY into an album.    The newly added images could also, at the same time, be added to the giant collection of all images.   BUT, the uploading of new photos would be simplified if they could go directly into an album, rather than need to be put into the image holding folder and THEN moved into an album.   That image holding folder is eventually going to become HUGE.  THANKS

Have you changed the code used to fetch images in the backend?

Sushubh 14 years ago updated by Alan Schaaf (Founder) 14 years ago 0

I have a Pro account with mmm very large number of images. And this had become a problem. Backend simply would not load the images unless i cleared the cache and reloaded the page multiple times. I was in fact considering switching to a brand new account to resolve this problem at my end.

But in the last 2-3 days I have seen that this problem has largely disappeared. Images load fine after a slight delay. Funny enough, this behavior started when I renewed my Pro account.

Just wanted to see if you had changed something in the code that was used to fetch the existing images for display in the backend!
